|Seattle welcomes US and Canadian sailors|
Tonight at the Washington Athletic Club, Miss Seafair rolled out a warm welcome for sailors in town from the US and Canada for Fleet Week. Fleet Week is a United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, and United States Coast Guard tradition in which active military ships recently deployed in overseas operations dock in various major cities for one week.
Welcome, men and women in uniform! Many waterfront attractions and some restaurants offer discounts for active-duty personnel and veterans during Fleet Week. Please ask. Seattle's Tall Ship out of Bell Harbor Marina (Pier 66) offers 20% off harbor tours on the type of ship that used to ply these waters in the days of yore. Let someone else do the sailing and enjoy:-)
Navy and Coast Guard ship tours are happening this week for locals, residents, and visitors. See how these professional sailors live and work at sea for months. Remarkable! Details at www.seafair.org/fleetweek ... See MoreSee Less

On Wednesday and Thursday nights (July 12-13), keep your eyes open late and scan the sky for signs of the Aurora Borealis. It is possible occasionally to spot this mystical show of nature from Seattle. However, if the dancing lights are faint, then they may be easier to discern from a more remote spot - the top of Mt. Rainier would be perfect:-). Read more about catching the northern lights in Seattle at www.npr.org/2023/07/09/1186525577/northern-lights-aurora-borealis-2023?shwa ... See MoreSee Less
